Lost - The temple write up

LOST: This is the best guaranteed Techno night, you can get in the UK. Various Detroit DJ's can be found playing the "Lost" night's, (sometimes a debuting in the UK). You will always be able to see Jeff Mills.

Jeff is my 2nd favourite DJ. Andrew Weatherall is my favourite, cos he is ugly (like us all) and doesn't fall over me when he's pissed. The mixing quality between them, is un-measurable by a mir mortal as myself.

Jeff is always consistantly banging whereas Andrew has variation in his sets (House, Techno etc), but when Andrew does a banging Techno set, expect your lower jaw, to hit the floor. Anyway back to Lost.

Lost will cost you anything from £12.50 to £15 for the night and it is usually on, once a month. They are well organised and are in different locations apart from Burundi which is usually at THE END.

It is run by Steve Bicknell and that is all I am telling you about it, cos I don't want tourists to come along. LOST is for the true believer and NOT for the casual posser type that wishes to be seen at the current in place. If that is you you will not enjoy the evening. If however you are a true believer then you can make you own effort in finding out how to join us a Lost....

Strutt Deluxe: MAY 26th 1996 - Brewery Lane
[Strutt Deluxe] OK, so this isn't the flyer for that night! Uhm, interesting one that!

The line-up was:-

An excellent night, full of little stories. Meeting people from Lost, Watching a light try and set fire to a backdrop during Jeff's set, seeing the best set that Jeff has EVER done, including the half hour encore and finally hearing Ausie or Kiwi doorman saying "Goodnight My Rave Children" which resounded down the street!

Voyager Homepage
VOYAGER: at the Complex every friday night. 4 floors, stay on level 2. You will get a banging set everytime from resident DJ Jon Cooke. Rick Hopkins (Resident at Blood Sugar) is now warming up. there are then usually 2 guest DJ's. Look out for the night when they have Andrew Weatherall and Jeff Mills playing on level 2 (Doubt it will ever happen).

Oh No, it's happening again! Click ME! Andrew Weatherall: played the best set, that I have EVER, heard him play, on the 31st January 1997 @ Voyager

Well it was hard, distinctively UK Techno mainly, occasional 1 to 3 second bursts of 70 Disc funky stuff (Mixed expertly). Then on top of that he was mixing some of that minimal stuff. Backspins Forward spins Up spins down spins, whatever they were, they were there and finally, I was there!

And who are you? I'm Andrew Weatherall!

A real bad night, the Advent cancelled due to dodgy wiring. The
power went off for about an hour just as Joey Beltram was
getting warmed up. and there was some ragmuffin something or
other playing next door which we could hear, especially when the
power was off!

However the end of the evening made it worth seeing as Derrick May
would not stop playing at the end so the doorman started to shake
the stage and make the record jump etc.

So Derrick picked up the deck and held it up high and stopped
the record from jumping. Then the doormen pulled a wire and
that was that.

What a night.... Rupert, make this happen again!
Rick warmed us all up and dropped in a Michael Jackson
track, unexpected - but it worked!

Then came Richard, a new DJ for me and what have
I been missing!! From tripppy/funk Techno, all
the way up to the hard stuff. Incidentally, he has a
nice piece of totty!!

Finally came Alex Knight's set. He may have had
the Delila touch (Sporting a new short hair style)
but this has had no adverse effect. Not an easy
job, the crowd was hot, drained of fluids and
basically shagged. Not detered by this, Alex
extracted his pound of flesh from us all.

I am ashamed to say: I left early, 5am, sorry:-( ul>

  • Sweat dropping from the ceiling
  • Ramp of death!!
  • Met sexy lady called Vicky
  • Amanda - was she wearing frilly knickers?
  • Charlie is that what you call golfing gear?
  • Poor RANXS, will he ever be left alone..
  • Mark has his weight back on.

    WISHES FOR THE NIGHT:-

    • Andrew plays a hard set - Happened
    • Ritchie plays a hard set - Happened
    • Gayle San happens to pop in for a dance and comes home with me - FAILED
    • To recognise Mat - Happened
    • Not to be pestered by Ground Zero Bitches:-) - Happened
    • Not to hear any Big Beat - Happened
    COMMENTS:-

Well... Andrew started of with some elektro, droping into some light dance Techno, whilst building to the harder stuff. By around 12:00 the scene was mainly Techno with the odd elektro track. The set was good, standard Andrew, though Technically it was sound!

Then Richtie came on at 1:00 and quite rapidly (within 20 Mins) built up the set, such that you felt you maybe at Lost. If he plays like this at Lost then we are in for another treat. The sound was that of a slightly slower Jeff Mills but you could definately hear the Detroit influence. The 909 could have been used more but that's cos I love that distorted Kick drum sound, I think you know what I mean:-) The tracks were nothing new, it's just they way he used them!

Andrew came on for the final set and I have to say... The best set I have heard, well when he plays hard, he can fuck your head up bigtime!! AND... AND of course it was all delivered with the Technically perfect Weatherall touch.

    • Room not large enough
    • Room temperature much to high - need extracter fans Rupert!
    • Some nice women - could have been more
    • Women should learn to dress with less on, then they wouldn't be so hot
    • Talking of HOT... Amanda was looking well sexy:-) Luv those heels!!
